STORYTELLER AND PRODUCER

After a tumultuous beginning to the Big 12 Regular Season, our team strung together four wins in five games to keep our NCAA tournament hopes alive, culminating in a rematch vs. 10th ranked Texas Tech. For this piece, I wanted to go full cinematic - depicting past, present and future to illustrate the full story of our conference season so far and the importance of this win moving forward. Each shift in color and sound was intentional to illustrate the roller coaster of emotions of the game and season - including the use of the same piano track at both the beginning and end. For every big recap, I believe each game fits into the overall narrative of a season, so adding the context of how we got here and where the rest of the season will go is as important to me as the actual game itself.
WHY NOT US? - CINEMATIC RECAP VS. TEXAS TECH
DEAR TCU FOOTBALL - TCU ATHLETICS FOOTBALL SEASON HYPE VIDEO
I was tasked with creating a hype video for our Athletics page to market our “Cowtown Kickoff” theme for our home opener. I decided to go in a different direction, which consisted of having three TCU fans - each from a different generation and with connections to the team in unique capacities - write letters of their personal experiences about why they love TCU football. We set up three interviews where we actually had them hand-write the letter in a location both specific to them and to TCU Football and the Fort Worth community. I really wanted to illustrate the emotional connection between teams and their fans and cities in an intimate way.
Golf is one of the most beautiful sports to film, and I had to pleasure of following senior golfer Gustav Frimodt during his final round with a chance to win the Big 12 Individual Golf Championship. I wanted to really capture the beauty of the environment and his golf game by mixing up shooting angles and vantage points through the round. In the end, I wanted to make something for Gustav himself that captured the beauty and triumph of a moment he will remember forever - and it was a privilege to be able to help him do so.

ONE OF ONE - DESMOND BANE JERSEY RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Desmond Bane’s impact on the TCU community is possibly the greatest of any athlete to ever wear purple, so when I sat down to write the script for this piece (narrated by fellow jersey retiree Kenrich Williams), I had difficulty figuring out how to communicate the enormity of that impact. Then, I narrowed in on his jersey number - 1 - to show his singular place in TCU history - “one of one.” Through combing through tons of old footage and some slight effects work, I was able to add visuals that played on the jersey number-theme, as well, and get the campus excited for the eventual ceremony.
THREE YEARS STRAIGHT - 2024 MARCH MADNESS HYPE VIDEO
To hype up our fans for March Madness, I really wanted to hit on the theme of how far this program has come in just 10 years. I took inspiration from the Last Dance to create a timeline sequence juxtaposing our 0-18 conference season in 2014 to the current day selection show, marking three years in a row of making the tournament. With the rest of video, narrated by former TCU guard Mike Miles Jr., I wanted to cement to our fans and those around college basketball that our program has moved in a new direction with an expectation to compete for and win tournament games, adding a little bit of an edge to the script.
TCU BASKETBALL 2025 CINEMATIC RECAP VS. BAYLOR
Whenever I start a recap, I try to see how I can make it different than simply “showing the events of the game.” I had seen the Boston Celtics use a mixed aspect ratio approach in some of their shortform videos and wanted to see if it could translate to a longform recap video. This new form of creativity allowed me to fit in more shots than I otherwise would have in an intro, fit more angles of an individual highlight into one sequence and add score and player stats without distracting the viewer. This is definitely my most “experimental” piece of content from an editing standpoint and something that, although not perfect, I would love to try more of. As good as horizontal video is at telling stories, the future is vertical, and you always have to adapt in an ever-changing social media landscape.
MINNESOTA FOOTBALL CINEMATIC RECAP VS. WISCONSIN
Of all of the pieces I made as a video intern at the University of Minnesota, this one is my personal favorite. The intro takes inspiration from an old Paul Bunyan cartoon (using the same song, text and cuts as the cartoon’s intro), which then transitions to a more dramatic song to show how dramatic and intense the rivalry still is today. I really tried to mess with stems in the sound design to fluctuate between high and low moments, climaxing in the silence before the game-winning touchdown pass as the intense music reaches its own climax. Sound is a huge part of any of my recap videos, and the opportunity to produce this piece is what has laid the foundation for all of my future recap projects.
